Understanding of the structural behavior is indispensable in development of the responsible solutions, regardless of the individual tasks. Only on this basis can the extreme performance of numerical simulation be utilized meaningfully. The reason for this is based on the necessity to transfer the reality to a numerical model, for which it is needed to abstract the influences and boundary conditions.
In this regard, the transfer of the geometry data is an important tool. However, the numerical model is not necessarily the same as the geometry model. Validation and verification of the numerical model are therefore essential steps in a targeted optimization process. This applies equally to very large structures such as bridges exposed to earthquakes or very small components such as acceleration sensors in motor vehicles.
